Volunteers make Indiana's largest apple pie

Posted:

How many people does it take to make an apple pie? When it's seven feet across it takes quite a crew.

In honor of the 37th annual Nappanee Apple Festival, volunteers worked to prepare Indiana's largest apple pie. With 100 pounds of pie dough and 19 bushels of apples, the pie is a hit every year.

"It's a big pie, but it's a lot of fun. It's awesome to have bragging rights to say you helped put together the largest pie in Indiana," says organizer and volunteer Mim Hartman.

The pie went in the oven at 2 p.m. Thursday. It takes 17 hours to cook, but then visitors can help themselves to a piece at the festival.
