Community remembering young victims of Cass County car accident

Posted:

A tragedy in Howard Township Michigan as two young girls have passed away after a car accident.  Their sister remains in the hospital.  We first told you about the horrible crash Tuesday.  Now friends and family are showing just how much these girls will be missed.

"We just were playing a game where there's a big castle and a whole bunch of people trying to attack it," said nine year old Zoe Martinez of playing with classmate Julianna Brown.  For  Martinez, Thursday was an evening of remembering Brown.  "She was really nice to everybody," said Martinez.

Martinez left flowers at the site of the car accident that claimed the lives of Brown and her 6-year-old half-sister Sophia True.  It was her way of remembering her friend and letting her know she won't be forgotten.  "I miss her and she was a really good friend."

Martinez's flowers aren't alone.  Other flowers, notes, stuffed animals, and balloons that say "you'll be missed" have been left on both sides of the intersection.

Miles away from that intersection something else is being done.  Mike Kromer played softball with the girls father and is one of many in the community in shock.   "When I first read the message of who it was my mouth just dropped," said Kromer.  So now Kromer, and others, are doing what they can to help the family.  They are organizing a one pitch superdraft softball tournament to be held at the McCoy Creek Recreational Area in Buchanan.  "I can't even begin to put my mind where they will be mentally and just the things they're going through and anything we can do to ease it," said Kromer.

That Softball Tournament will be held on September 29th.  There's a $15 registration fee and you've got to sign up by September 25th.  To register send an email to benefitforgirls@yahoo.com.  You can also visit the events Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/benefitforgirls/.  All proceeds from the tournament are being donated to the family of Julianna Brown, Sophia True, and Penelope True.

You can also donate at Greater Niles Community Federal Credit Union.  The account number is 70007.

And another way to help, visit Wings Etc in Niles Tuesday September 18th.  The restaurant will be donating 10% of its proceeds to the girls' family.
