SW Ind. tube race returns after 3-year absence

Posted:

A Wabash River raft race featuring teams sailing down the river on inner tubes tied together with rope is returning to southwestern Indiana following a three-year absence.

Saturday's Vincennes University Tube Race will be the 35th running of the race organizers call the "most unusual spectacle in racing."

The Vincennes Sun-Commercial reports (http://bit.ly/TOajFN ) the race hasn't been held since 2008 because of repairs to a retaining wall at the George Rogers Clark Memorial, which serves as the race's finish line.

The race features dozens of teams of either five women or five men who create rafts from inner tubes lashed together with rope. The race begins noon Saturday at Vincennes' Kimmell Park. Each team's time is recorded as they reach a downtown Vincennes bridge, and top teams earn trophies.
