Elkhart is hoping to draw in thousands over the next week and a half.
Trucks started delivering 7,000 gigantic mums that will make up a flower carpet along Elkhart's Riverwalk. They've timed this out with "Celebrate the Arts" events in downtown Elkhart. And that includes events at the Lerner Theatre, the ArtWalk, Elkhart Dining Days and Museum exhibits.
In fact, the flower design they've putting together was inspired by the Lerner Carpet and they're constructing a viewing platform on High Street.
Sonya Nash, Project Manager of Quilt Gardens says, "Well, it bloomed literally by inspiration from other locations. There is a giant flower carpet in Brussels, Belgium that features over 300,000 begonias and we thought 'Gosh, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could do that?' But that seemed a big step for our first year, so we're taking off with just 7,000 mums."
You can check out the Mums, the Diva of the fall flowers, from September 19-29 on Waterfall Drive in downtown, Elkhart.
