A suspect has been charged in the shooting death of a South Bend man back on September 16. Police found the body of 16-year-old Jhaelon Johnson lying in the sidewalk near Washington and Dundee while responding to reports of gunfire. Two other people were also shot, but are expected
to recover.
On Thursday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office charged Damontray Lovelady with Johnson's death. Lovelady is facing one count of Murder, one count of Carrying a Handgun Without a Permit, and one of Carrying a Handgun After Having Benn Convicted of Carrying a Handgun.
Lovelady is currently being held without bond at the St. Joseph County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
