Four Winds makes major donation

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians made a huge donation to Memorial Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald Family Room Friday.

The tribe, who owns Four Winds Casino, gave Memorial a check for $53,000 and the Ronald McDonald room with one for $10,000.

That came from money made during the first ever Four Winds Invitational in August.

Both organizations were very grateful.

The hospital will use it for a pediatric intensive care unit on wheels.

Phil Newbold, CEO Beacon Health System says, "This pediatric transport vehicle, this ambulance, if you will, gets kids that are critically ill, injured to the right physicians that can obviously save their lives and make a real difference in their long, term recovery.

Shelley Lesniewicz, the Executive Director of McDonald House Charities says, "For a small charity like ours, it makes a huge impact. Because we don't ask our families for anything for all of the services we provide for them."

The Ronald McDonald Charities are looking to build their first home in the community so this money will help them do that as well.

Four Winds will sponsor the invitational again in 2013.
