In Elkhart, students were celebrating the International Day of Peace. The kids made pinwheels and planted them in the shape of peace signs.
A school social worker at Roosevelt Elementary talked to us about the reason behind it. "Well the pinwheels are the international sign of peace, so kids make them in art class a couple weeks in advance. We talk about peace and lessons on being peaceful."
Another part of the schools Day of Peace activities was the kick off of their anti-bullying program.
The Day of Peace happens every September 21st and provides an opportunity to create practical acts of peace on a shared day. It was first celebrated in 1981.
