South Bend native and pro BMX biker Brett Banasiewicz has been moved to a rehabilitation facility.
Banasiewicz was hurt while practicing ahead of a competition in Virginia Beach, Virginia late last month. Since then he has been recovering in a hospital. He was unconscious for two weeks. But this week his mom Lisa Banasiewicz said he was moved.
"He still is a long way from returning to Indiana but this is the next crucial step to healing and getting his life back," she said in a Facebook post. "Brett is a fighter, stubborn & determined to overcome his injuries, and do it ahead of normal schedules."
Banasiewicz will reportedly spend the next few months in the rehab facility. His mom says the swelling in his brain is going down each day the family is also hoping he can rebuild a lot of the muscle weight he lost since checking into the hospital.
"My son is in good hands," said Lisa Banasiewicz. "But then again, Brett's been in God's hands. I know God & the rehab staff will take very good care of my son."
