The Four Flags Area Apple Festival is OPEN for business in Niles. That's despite the drought and a disappointing harvest.
We're told the festival had to seek out a different supplier this year, but they're making it work, and they still found a supplier in Southwest Michigan.
"The Red Delicious are still beautiful, but the Galas are a little smaller, so we had to pick through them to find ones suitable for selling and for giving away in our apple give-aways," says Board of Directors member Pat Teeter. "It was kind of a tough year for them."
The festival is absorbing the increased cost of the apples. You shouldn't see much of a difference. The fest will still include the regular fun activities that have drawn big crowds for 40 years.
The festival started Thursday and runs through Sunday.
