Conservation officers are investigating the death of a Rochester man during a youth hunting trip in Fulton County over the weekend.
Officers say 28-year-old Kenneth Moore died from a single gunshot wound to the head. He was hunting with two other adults and a twelve year old. The four split into two groups. While Moore was off with the 12 year old, one of the other hunters shot him.
Moore was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. More information will be released as it becomes available.
Until then, Indiana Conservation Officers have the following safety advice for any hunters going out:
- Wear hunter orange that is visible in all directions
- Treat every firearm as if it's loaded
- Keep the muzzle of the firearm pointed in a safe direction at all times
- Keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot
- Positively identify your target before pulling the trigger
- Always know what's beyond the target and have a good backstop
