A Toll Road worker and an SUV driver are dead after a crash on I-90 near the Michigan City exit on Tuesday morning.
The maintenance worker, 52-year-old Daniel Miller, was getting tree-trimming equipment out of a pickup truck when a Hyundai Santa Fe crashed into him and his truck. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene. Another worker who was in the pickup at the time of the crash was injured, and taken to an area hospital. He is expected to be okay.
The driver of the SUV was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries. His name has not yet been released. State Police say a red Santa Fe had been reported driving erratically on the Toll Road just minutes before the crash.
The westbound lanes were closed for about two hours while crews cleared the scene.
ISP is reminding all drivers that is the law to be cautious, move over, and slow down when approaching emergency or maintenance vehicles.
