Investigators are still looking for the gun a suspect used to fire at a police officer in South Bend.
It all started when police were called to Ford Street for some sort of argument or disturbance Tuesday afternoon.
That's when the suspect took off in a car. After police chased him for a short time, he got out and started running, firing shots at an officer. Luckily, nobody was hit.
The suspect hid in a vacant house a few blocks away from the initial scene. That's where police found him, and arrested him.
People who live in the area are worried about another crime in their neighborhood. "There's kids around here, you know, little kids that look up to certain people and they see this and they're gonna think, you know, 'seems cool.' It's not," says Jose Ortiz, who lives nearby.
Police aren't releasing the suspect's name until he is formally charged. Lt. Dave Wells with St. Joseph County Metro Homicide says officers have searched the area and house well for the weapon.
He says he doesn't believe the suspect had time to bury it and that it's possible someone saw him ditch it, and picked it up.
