Bob Newton, the beloved Founder of Hoosier Tire, was laid to rest Tuesday. The successful businessman and philanthropist died last week at the age of 85.
His funeral procession went by Newton Park, the complex Bob and his wife built in Lakeville.
"Bob was great," said Newton Park's Groundskeeper William Horbath. "He did a lot of things for this town and community and I respect and admire his person."
Park Director Kevin Christy waved as the procession went by the park Tuesday. "He was a generous guy," Christy said. "I mean you could see it from keeping Hoosier Tire here as long as he was in Lakeville. I mean who else puts millions of dollars in a facility (Newton Park) that they'll never see a dime out of just for kids to have something to do."
Newton's procession included a Hoosier Tire Semi. People in town told us he'll be remembered most for his strong sense of community.
