A bicyclist has died after an accident Thursday afternoon.
It happened on State Road 331 just north of Tyler Road, about a mile north of U.S. 6, around 12:50 p.m.
Police say the bicyclist walking his bike south in the northbound lane of State Road 331 when he was hit by an SUV and thrown into a ditch.
Saint Joseph County Police say the 20-year-old bicyclist from South Bend died around 3:00 p.m. after being flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The name of the bicyclist has not yet been released by police. The driver of the SUV was also taken to the hospital. Police say it was a precaution since she is 5 months pregnant.
The Saint Joseph County Fatal Accident Investigation Team was on the scene to investigate what happened. They're asking any witnesses to contact police.
