ESPN's College GameDay coming to Notre Dame

Posted:

Notre Dame's latest game is barely behind us, but it's already time to look forward to the next matchup.

When the Irish take on Stanford Saturday, they'll have a few important guests.

The guys from ESPN's College GameDay will be here.

The show is from 10 to noon on the lawn between the stadium and library, with Touchdown Jesus as the background.

ESPN will have its setup blocked off until 7 am Saturday, so fans won't be able to get close until then.

Fans are already excited.

"We want to get out there, get a bunch of crazy signs out there in the background, make our presence felt.  Make Stanford know we're ready to play," says Notre Dame senior, Reed Haines.

Local businesses are also excited and getting ready for the rush.

"Phones are ringing off the wall. It's the first game actually that it's happened with.  As you know the times of the games don't necessarily help restaurant tours, but  with all the buzz and all the excitement,  with being 5 and 0,  phones are ringing, and people are coming into town," says Larry Katz, General Manager of Cafe Navarre.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau says visitors spend about $10 million on gameday, and that's just visitors.

"We're stoked here. Notre Dame football 5 and 0, that's a great thing for South Bend, the restaurants get more packed, the hotels fill up, people all around are just in a more jovial attitude.  We're really looking forward to it," says Aaron Perri with Downtown South Bend.

The last time College GameDay came to Notre Dame was in 2005.
