When you look at a football player, you probably think 'tough,' right?
This Saturday, as the Fighting Irish play for 6-0, they'll be showing their softer side on the field.
As you know, October is breast cancer awareness month and the team is doing their part to help.
The players will be wearing their usual uniforms on Saturday, but will be adding some pink accessories: pink wristbands, gloves, and socks.
It's a color the players are actually excited to wear.
"Actually I love wearing pink a lot. I usually, and I haven't busted them out yet, but I have a hot pair of "Chucks" I usually wear for the month of October," says Notre Dame Safety Matthias Farley.
Many of the players say they want to help because women close to them have battled cancer.
"My grandmother had breast cancer and beat it," says Center, Braxton Cave.
Coach Kelly is also getting involved, his wife, Paqui, is a two-time cancer survivor and the couple founded the organization Kelly Cares, to fight back.
The organization will be selling 15,000 Brian Kelly face masks for the game to raise money for the foundation.
"It's so important to have your early detection and cancer awareness, just to keep that at the forefront of your mind. Gives us that great platform this weekend to remind everybody of that," says Lisa Klunder with Kelly Cares.
You can buy one for $5. They'll be sold at the football Friday luncheon on campus, the Eddy Street concert Friday night, O'Rourkes, both Kelly Cares and Logan offices, and students will sell them on campus before Saturday's game.
