Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore says the city will be closing Sims
Oak Hills Golf Course near Middlebury on October 19 and try to sell the
property.
The city says the course was initially set up to sustain
itself by player fees and the sale of merchandise. In a release, Moore says the course has
only survived on revenue generated by the sale of two properties on the course
and an adjustment to the course's liability insurance premium.
The city doesn't use tax dollars to supplement the operating
cost of the course.
Along with trying to sell the course, the Mayor's release
says the city will also try to divest other properties outside the city limits.
