It happens a lot in the farming community, but that doesn't make it any less impressive. In fact we thought what happened in Elkhart County Friday was a pretty awesome display of the human spirit.
Farmer Don Lechlitner fell from a ladder recently and broke several ribs and his pelvis. That left him unable to harvest his soybeans. When his fellow farmers found out, they stepped in and did the work for him, harvesting all 250 acres for no charge.
"You never know when it's going to happen to you, you know. It's just a thing that's been done in the farming community for years and years," said Lechlitner's friend Lester Graber.
Lechlitner told us he's humbled and thankful. "I'm not really one to ask for help, but the phone just started ringing off the hook, people wanting to help me, other farmers," he said. "It's just awesome and overwhelming to me."
