A slain Michigan State Police trooper of the Niles post was remembered today.
Trooper Steven DeVries was shot and killed by a bank robber after a routine traffic stop in October 1972.
DeVries was 32-years-old.
A flag at the law enforcement complex was at half-staff and officers performed a 21-gun salute.
A retired M-S-P detective spoke about his friendship with DeVries.
"I had the chance to work with him and get to know him not only as a fellow employee but as a friend," said retired MSP detective Logan Tisdale. "Steve was the kind of guy you loved working with..he loved his job and was so fun to be around."
A small wreath was laid at the site of the incident.
DeVries was the 28th MSP officer to die in the line of duty since its creation in 1917.
