Drivers in Goshen welcomed a new opening today.
County Road 17 opened a new four-mile stretch Friday morning.
This new stretch on 17 will now connect County Road 28 to County Road 38 in Goshen.
Local officials say that Goshen finally has a good north-south road.
"Well this is our north-south corridor, in Saint Joe County they have capital avenue is their major north-south corridor, this is our north-south corridor, we've had good east-west roads for a long time, but north south has been a problem so this ties Goshen and Elkhart much more closely together, makes the trip easier, its good for commerce, good for industry and that's why we're excited about it," said Elkhart County Council John Letherman.
Most of the funding for the County Road 17 project came from local contributions.
