South Shore train service restored

Posted:

Slow day for folks traveling by train Sunday.

The South Shore line from South Bend to Chicago was down for most of the morning and afternoon.

Service has now been restored.

The Northern Indiana Commuter Train District says it's because of a NIPSCO power outage this morning in Porter County.

The outage also caused extensive damage to a South Shore substation.

Some passengers trying to get back to South Bend from Chicago, were forced to find another way.

One woman who talked to FOX 28 says she left Chicago at 8:40am on the train, but had to take a bus back to South Bend after train service was stopped. She didn't arrive until about 3:45pm.
