An off-duty sheriff's deputy saved a Warsaw man from a burning house on
Sunday. The fire broke out around 11:00pm at a home near Chapman Lake.
The off-duty deputy was first on the scene. There, police say, he
found the resident standing inside the front door. The man then
reportedly ran deeper into the home calling for the officer to "come and
get him."
The officer entered the home and found the man on the ground on the second
floor. The deputy dragged the man down the stairs and out of the
building.
Police say the resident was "combative" and needed to be held in
the deputies squad car until EMS arrived and took the man to an area hospital
for treatment.
Police say the man told them he was attempting to commit suicide.
