Getting public housing energy efficient for winter

The South Bend Housing Authority is busy getting their homes ready for winter.

They've partnered with "Energizing Indiana" to offer free energy assessments to people living in public and section eight housing.
The goal is to increase energy efficient and improve living conditions.

"A lot because its an education for them and they can provide them with a lot of energy things that will help them with their energy bills," said Housing Authority of South Bend's Charles Williamson.

"If we were to do installation in a home as an example we would see somewhere between 20 and 30 percent savings," said Managing Director Energizing Indiana Bob Nuss. "Just with direct install measures, CFL light bulbs and water saving measures generally 10 to 15 percent of electric bill."

Three thousand families will benefit from the winterizing assessments.
