Teacher accused of inappropriate communication with former student appears in court

A Walt Disney Elementary School teacher accused of having inappropriate communication with a former student appeared in court Thursday morning.

During his appearance, Eric West was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of Inappropriate Communication with a Child.

Prosecutors say West, a 5^th grade teacher, sent inappropriate text messages to a former student who is now 12 years old. An attorney with the Special Victims Unit said in an affidavit that texts on July 12, 2012 were of a sexual nature.

West is scheduled to appear in court again on November 28 for a status hearing.
