An Amtrak passenger train has derailed near Niles, MI. The accident happened around 10:30 Sunday morning.
Amtrak says they have no reports of serious injuries at this time. There were seven people who were transported to an area hospital with "minor injuries" according to the Niles Fire Department.
The train had 169 passengers on board the Detroit train. Those passengers were taken to the Niles Depot to then be bussed to their destinations.
Service is currently interrupted on the rail. The cause of the derailment is currently unknown, but is being investigated.
