"He's extreme on a number of issues, but this was even an eye popper for me," says State Senator and chairman of the St. Joseph County Democratic Party, John Broden.
Broden says he found Richard Mourdock's statement in Tuesday's debate appalling. Mourdock said when a woman is impregnated during a rape, "it's something God intended."
Mourdock tried to clarify his statement saying he cherished life and his words were twisted. But Broden says, "I believe Richard Mourdock said what's in his heart. He couldn't be more clear. He did not mistake himself."
Broden says this statement goes right along with Mourdock's "extreme" views and this is the sort of statement that should disqualify Mourdock from the race.
"I can't imagine the voters supporting this attitude," says Broden.
