A Special Prosecutor will investigate an incident involving South Bend
Common Council Henry Davis, Jr. and the arrest of his father, Henry Davis, Sr.
The Saint Joseph County Prosecutor's Office says Michael McAlexander, the
Chief Deputy Prosecutor in Allen
County, has been
appointed by a court to review Monday's incident. Prosecutor Michael Dvorak
says he made the request to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
Councilman Davis says he was pulled over on Western Avenue by South Bend Police on
his way home from Monday's Common Council meeting. On his Twitter page, Davis says he was put in
handcuffs. Davis'
father, who was following him in another vehicle, was arrested.
Police say Councilman Davis was cited for failure to stop for an emergency vehicle
and for not having a light on his license plate. Henry Davis, Sr. was arrested for
reckless driving.
The Prosecutor's Office says McAlexander will review and investigate the
matter to determine if there was any impropriety in the stops and to see if
there is sufficient evidence to charge either man with any criminal offenses or
traffic infractions.
