Super Storm Sandy has caused a lot of folks across the country to try and lend a hand for people on the East Coast. The St. Joseph County Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking to help people who want to volunteer in the wake of the storm.
To head east, people have to be trained first. And this week the Red Cross will be offering a boot camp for people who wanted to get that training. The first class will be held on Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m. and a second session will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Training will consist of two classroom sessions followed by a simulation where volunteers will use the skills they've learned to set up and prepare a shelter for use in a disaster.
If you want to get involved call the St. Joseph County Chapter at (574) 234-0191 to sign up. The Elkhart and Kosciusko County chapters are also organizing group training sessions.
If you can't be a part of the training and you still want to help you can text REDCROSS to the number 90999 to make a $10-dollar donation.
