Thursday marked the first day of Winter Weather Amnesty in St. Joseph County.  Five agencies from the area will provide additional sleeping accommodations to people in need.

People in need can go to any of the following locations to find a warm place to sleep, a light snack, and an opportunity to bathe and/or change clothes:

  • Broadway Christian Parish: 1412 S. Carroll, South Bend
  • Our Lady of the Road:  744 S. Main, South Bend
  • Center for the Homeless:  813 S. Michigan, South Bend
  • Life Treatment Centers:  1402 S. Michigan, South Bend
  • YWCA of North Central Indiana:  1102 S. Fellows, South Bend

Amnesty runs 8:00pm to 8:00am from November 1 to April 1.

If you'd like to help out the program, they are looking for donations.  They are looking for: hygiene supplies (travel size); towels and washcloths; blankets, pillows, and sheets; laundry detergent; hats, gloves, and scarves (adult sizes); sanitizing wipes and baby wipes; and coffee, sugar, and snacks (preferably high protein).  Additionally, the Catholic Worker Our Lady of the Road is in need of ten twin size mattresses and pest-control mattress covers.

You can drop off donations at Broadway Christian Parrish Monday through Thursday from 9:00am - Noon, at Our Lady of the Road Friday through Sunday 8:30am - 11:00am and at the other locations 24/7.
