Doctor David Fishbaugh of North Point Pediatric Dentistry bought back Halloween candy Thursday.
The Dental Practice started paying two dollars a pound for candy in the name of good dental health about seven years ago. Dr. Fishbaugh said he's seen a major increase in tooth decay over the last couple of years because kids have such a higher concentration of carbohydrates in their diet.
As for the candy buy back he said kids and parents just love it! "I think the most we've ever got, one year, somebody brought in close to 20 pounds. Usually, on average, it's not unusual to get between 5 and 10 pounds for some of the older kids and some of the younger kids are just cute as can be. Had a little boy here earlier. he had a bowl full, 2 or 3 pounds and just happy as possible to collect a few dollars for that," said Fishbaugh.
North Point Pediatric Dentistry is matching each kids payout by making the same donation to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. And it's not too late. They will still be buying candy Monday through Thursday of next week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Their office is on Douglas Road in South Bend.
