8-0 record adds extra excitement to Notre Dame traditions

Posted:

Tradition and Notre Dame are almost synonymous.  The midnight drummer's circle, praying at the Grotto, and the band playing at Bond Hall.  It's even more fun to take part when your team is undefeated.

A quiet scene at the grotto Friday night as Notre Dame Fans took time before the game to pray for many things.  Notre Dame Fan Mark Dolaghan said, "it's ok to pray for the win. God wants us to ask for what we need."  Praying at the Grottos is a pre game ritual that Dolaghan and other fans said they just can't miss.  "I always come to the grotto whenever I come to Notre Dame," said Dolaghan.

And with the Irish now 8-0 the tradition is drawing fans from all over the place.  Matt Dwyer and Pam Jennings came from Atlanta.  Dwyer said ever since Notre Dame started winning Jennings told him, "we have to go up there."

The hype around the team continued across campus at another, louder pre game must do, the pep rally.  There fans admitted they were pumped up as usual but with this week it felt different because of the teams record.  "At Notre Dame we love our traditions so they're always big.  This year since we're so winning everyone's just even more excited about being there," said Notre Dame Student Colleen Boyle.  And Notre Dame Fan Della Zona said, It's always such a wonderful atmosphere every time we come but I think there's a little bit of an edge with them being 8-0 this year."
