Is your Halloween pumpkin starting to rot a little bit?
You don't have to just throw it away.
Saturday folks smashed their old pumpkins.
It was part of America Recycles Day at the Elkhart Environmental Center.
There was also hands-on recycling activities and a recycled art contest and exhibit.
"We hope people think about things in a different way. We really want them to look at that art and say this came from stuff that going to be thrown out," says organizer Ericka Popovich.
Breanna Austin who attended the event says, "If you don't save it eventually all the landfills will fill up and if they fill up you have nowhere to go."
Folks also enjoyed the brisk air with a hike and a little relaxing by the bonfire.
