Some high school scholars are in South Bend this weekend for the Siemens Competition.
The 15 scholars are representing eight states, including Indiana.
Participants present their research in math, science and technology to judges.
Some of the topics are exploring sleep disorders and decontaminating water.
We caught up with two students who are representing the Hoosier state to tell us about their project.
"We analyzed a few genetic networks using math. Our results have implications that could possibly lead to treatment for ranging from anything from sleep disorders to cancers," said Participant Daniel Fu.
The winners of this competition move on to nationals in Washington, D.C.
$500,000 in scholarship money will be awarded including two top prizes of $100,000 a piece.
