Things were heating up for a good reason in South Bend Sunday.
It was for the Pet Refuge chili cookoff.
For $5, chili professionals could enter their piping hot recipe into the competition.
Participants could also pay to sample, or buy a full bowl of their favorite chili.
Proceeds went to Pet Refuge, a no-kill animal shelter.
"We are all volunteer run, we don't get any outside funding so it's from the community. So the more we can raise awareness about Pet Refuge and the things we're trying to do, the better," says Jessie Malone with Pet Refuge.
There was also games, raffles, and a bake sale.
