Police in Van Buren County say they've uncovered and
destroyed a marijuana growing operation they believe contained $1.7 million dollars worth of marijuana.
The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department says the operation
was uncovered in the 78000 Block of 38th
Avenue in Covert Township
on Friday after a tip. Detectives had to use ATVs to get to the area.
Detectives say 3 trees had been cut down and the area
cleared to grow marijuana. They also found a large hole they believed was used
as a water source, and empty fertilizer bags and empty food wrappers at a camp site.
Police say they destroyed more
than 1700 marijuana plants, worth an estimated $1.7 million dollars.
Investigators believe this
may be connected to another growing operation discovered about a half-mile away
in August. 1781 plants were destroyed at that location.
So far, no suspects have
been identified. Anyone with information should contact Van Buren County
Sheriff's Department or Crime Stoppers.
