A disabled train east of East Chicago created problems on the South Shore Wednesday evening.
NICTD says the train, which was on its way to Chicago, damaged a pantograph. A pantograph is part of the equipment that provides power to the train from the overhead lines.
Trains are once again operating east of Hammond, though delays are said to be in excess of 60 minutes heading east. Eastbound trains 209, 215, 117 and westbound trains 218, 20, 220 have been canceled.
