A 64-year-old Starke County man is dead after a Thursday morning accident. David Hollinger's Chevy Cobalt was hit by a train in St. Joseph County.
It happened just after 1:00 right outside the Walkerton town limits on State Road 104, which connects the town and the City of LaPorte.
The path to the railroad tracks were actually closed when the accident happened. Police say Hollinger tried to drive around the construction. They believe Hollinger's car got stuck because of construction on the train tracks. The train was traveling at 50 mile per hour and was not able to stop in time.
An autopsy is schedule for Thursday.
