A Nappanee man is dead after an accident in Elkhart County Tuesday night.
It happened at 6:47 on County Road 50 around 11 miles east of Goshen. Police say someone driving a Jeep Liberty was passing a buggy when that SUV struck a moped driven by 20-year-old Jeremy Yates. Yates was thrown from his moped and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jeep also took on a lot of damage. The driver's identity is not known at this time. Two of the passengers, 20-year-old William Perry of Goshen and 20-year-old Randall Purtell of Milford were not wearing seatbelts. They were rushed to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Their conditions are not known at this time. Twenty-eight-year-old Melissa Yoder of Ligonier was wearing a seat belt. She was taken to the hospital for back pain.
No charges have been filed so far in this case.
