The Salvation Army is taking advantage of new technology to generate some good, old fashioned "giving."
Alongside the their traditional Red Kettles, you will be seeing QR codes this year. There are some 115 QR code badges you scan with your smart phone throughout St. Joseph County.
It's a scavenger hunt called "Finding Christmas."
If you're one of the top point earners by scanning the most QR codes you can win you prizes like diamond earrings, a Silver Hawks Suite, and Kroc Center memberships.
The Salvation Army's Graphic Designer helped create the campaign as a way to get people to interact with the bell ringers- not avoid eye contact.
Jonathan Kitchens, Graphic Designer Kroc Center says, "I tried to come up with a fun way to get people to actually want to give to the kettles and understand it's not just about the Salvation Army. It's actually about helping people in our community."
At times, scanning those QR codes, brings up a coupon from a neighboring business, too.
Everyone who finds Christmas will get a day pass to the Kroc Center.
The program runs through December 24th.
