A building that has a long history in Elkhart will soon be coming down. The facility that had once been the home of" Elkhart Carriage & Harness" is set for demolition. The city said they have received a 500 thousand dollar grant from the state to make it happen. The building had fallen into disrepair and has become dangerous. After bringing it down and cleaning up, the city will put the green space up for sale. The mayor said the news is bittersweet. "It always is for me. If you are an older person and you remember somewhat how the building was used. It sustained many families for many, many years, different operations inside the building."
The demolition will take place this winter. The city is expecting requests for bricks as momentous and they'll try to honor those requests.
