Every kid deserves to have presents under the tree Christmas morning. And Mishawaka Cops were making that possible Sunday. A few dozen kids got a police escort to the Meijer on Grape Road this morning. They're all children who are in need this holiday season. They all got $130 today to go shopping for what they wanted for Christmas. Chloe Lauridsen was one of the children shopping with police officers. She said she wanted, "A guitar, cause it looks really cool." Her brother, Joel, wanted to buy some Lego's. He was excited about the opportunity to go shopping for new toys. "Our family doesn't make that much money and it's just like really nice that they're giving us money to buy stuff," said Joel Lauridsen.
The money for the event comes from Fundraisers the cops do all year long. Before the shopping spree they also treated the kids to some breakfast and coloring at the Mishawaka FOP. The cops say they just want to make the holidays a little brighter for these youngsters. "With the job unfortunately it comes with it, you run into a lot of kids who have nothing. So it's our way to give back to them," said Pasquale Rulli Jr., the President of Mishawaka FOP.
The officers said they've already started planning for next years Christmas with a cop.
