It's official! Notre Dame is going bowling in Miami.
Irish players watched on with excitement as the BCS made its selections.
Notre Dame fans knew their team would be heading to the national championship game last week when the Irish completed their undefeated regular season by beating USC in Los Angeles.
With Alabama's SEC title win last night against Georgia, the matchup became clear and Sunday, was the night it all became official with the BCS selection show.
The Executive Director of the BCS, Bill Hancock, made this statement:
"I'm excited to announce that the Discover BCS National Championship will match up No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 2 Alabama on January 7," said Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the Bowl Championship Series. "These two storied programs, this year's undisputed top two teams, will square off in a must-see event. We also have an intriguing and exciting full slate of BCS games, plus a tremendous lineup of other bowls to once again cap off the best regular season in sports."
The Irish players, coaches and staff couldn't help but to celebrate as the match-up was unveiled.
No. 1 Notre Dame will play No.2 and defending national champion Alabama on January 7th.
