One sport is becoming more popular in Michiana. Field hockey.
The YMCA of Michiana is offering field hockey classes for the first time ever. They are partnering with the Notre Dame hockey team to teach the game to kids. Today the team hosted a scrimmage and met with kids in the community to kick off the classes that will be starting soon.
"This is just kind of a showcase to show some people who are interested in what a game of field hockey looks like, what's some equipment, meet some of the players, because most of these girls are going to be helping out," says Caitlin Lackner, ND field hockey team captain.
The classes will be offered starting January 7 and players on the Notre Dame hockey team will be the teachers.
