Keeping your pets safe around holiday decorations

The holiday season is in full swing with all the decorations and parties.
Amid all the craziness we wanted to give you some safety tips for your furry friends.

Pet Poison Hotline says to be aware of holiday foods and string-like decorations.
Even though you might want to share one of the staples of the holiday season -- fruitcake, don' contains raisins and currants which can cause kidney failure in dogs.
Another good idea, avoid using tinsel or any string-like items for decorating your tree.
If those are ingested, they can cause severe damage to the intestinal tract.
And power cords are another safety concern.

"Puppies like this will chew on extension cords and have shock injuries to their mouth or tongue are common problems."

Also think about where you or guests are placing your purse.
Pets can find some interesting things such as gum and hand sanitizers.
