State of Our Black Youth Report released Tuesday

The State of Our Black Youth Report was released Tuesday.  During a press conference at the Charles Martin Youth Center the report was a mixed bag.

Teen birth rates are up, as are families headed by single parents, But low birth weight babies are going down.

"As far as education, the numbers are up for African American children, graduation rates are up, and job opportunities are low," explained board member Board of Directors Indiana Black Expo.

Miller says South Bend's numbers are very comparable to cities across the state.  The biggest problem across the board seems to be lack of job opportunities.

This is the first time in 5 years the comprehensive statewide study has been done.  It looked at South Bend's numbers and compared them to other Indiana cities.
