Keep the wreath red. That's the slogan for Clay Fire Territory annual awareness event.
They a wreath at the station with 50 red bulbs each year. Every time there's a fire between Thanksgiving and Christmas, they turn one of the red bulbs white. It's a way to remind people to be safe and take extra safety precautions during a season that includes so many hazards in the home.
"We already have two lights that have gone white and unfortunately, one person has died this holiday season, so far," said Chief John Vance. "We want to make sure we don't have anymore of those lights going white on the wreath. We want to keep it red this holiday season."
Some of the hazards to watch out for include Christmas trees that aren't watered properly and become dry, overloaded electrical outlets, damaged wires, and candles.
