Many people attended a reception with the Mayor of Elkhart Thursday night...
Their admission price at city hall? A can of food.
It's a holiday food drive for local food banks that has been a mayoral tradition for years.
Mayor Dick Moore says this event allows him to meet the public while helping those in need.
"For one thing we like to bring the people into their city hall and it gives me a chance to meet the public," said Mayor Dick Moore. "Then there's the need. There's always been a need and its been a little more urgent than its been in many years."
All the food collected today will be given to Church Community Services, the Salvation Army and Faith Mission.
