A five-year-old South Bend boy is in an Indianapolis hospital after being shot.
It happened at 8:35 Thursday night on Huey Street, which is on the city's Northwest Side. According to South Bend Police he was shot by his seven-year-old brother. Police say the bullet went through the child's wrist and ended up in his hip.
There's no word on how the boy got the gun in the first place, but police do say two guns were found.
The boys and another child were being watched by their aunt at the time. Their mother was at work.
The injured five-year-old was taken to a local hospital, but hospital officials and South Bend Police tell FOX28 he was later transferred to Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis for surgery. At last report, the child's condition was stable.
Police believe this shooting was accidental but they are still investigating all possibilities. Child Protective Services are also involved in the investigation.
