Mishawaka High School Sophomore Anna Rhorer is the 2012 Footlocker Cross Country National Champion! Anna was one of 40 of the best runners in the country who qualified for the race in San Diego. She won with a time of 17:25. She becomes the first Indiana Champion since Celeste Susnis from Kankakee Valley in 1988.
Anna won the Footlocker Midwest Regional in November in Wisconsin. She was the 2012 Indiana State Champion, becoming the first female cross country runner in state history to run under the 17:00 mark.
Rohrer told FOX 28 Sports Director Dean Huppert Friday that she was not only running for herself, but for all of Mishawaka and the state of Indiana. She was thrilled to get a message from US Olympian Morgan Uceny who grew up in Northern Indiana and went to Plymouth High School. She told Anna she wanted to go watch her run, but she was in England this weekend.
It's been an amazing run for Anna who had a broken bone in her foot a year ago during the season. At this time last year, she was still on crutches just hoping to walk normal again. Now she's become one of the greatest high school x-country runners in Indiana history.
