SilverHawks owner helps in red kettle effort

Posted:

A pretty high profile bell ringer helped the Salvation Army on Monday.

The Owner of the South Bend SilverHawks, Andrew Berlin, teamed up with Major Bob Webster at the kettle in front of  Hobby Lobby in Mishawaka.   The corp is trying to raise 340-thousand dollars this year.   The money helps with food, clothing and Christmas gifts for people down on their luck and also teaches classes in self sufficiency.

Berlin wanted to help the Kroc Center and their work, calling "The Cove" a great neighbor.   Berlin says, "The SilverHawks had a great year last year and I think the appropriate thing is to give something back to the he community. We're looking forward to a great year next year and we'll do it again."

Major Bob Webster, Senior Kroc Center Officer for the Salvation Army says,
"We're only about 55 percent of our goal right now, so we have a lot to go.  We need to get there in order to take care of all the stuff, so there's plenty of time.  we'll be ringing the bell through Christmas Eve."

The money raised during the kettle campaign helps some 1400 families at Christmas and all through 2013.
